In this article "गणित कक्षा के कुछ अनुभव" by "Sushant Pani", the writer discussed the various Problems faced by the students of primary level in Maths such as word problems, questions of taking or borrowing carry and its understanding, place value, to develop different understandings by analyzing wrong solutions.
The writer observes the very basic thing that if we relate the word problems or questions with their real life or we call out their names as a character of the word problem, while discussing any question or word problems in class then it would make the students more conscious and interested to understand the question. It will broaden their way of solving the word problems. One basic thing regarding word problems is that the children don't have clarity in finding which operation they should continue with. This is the biggest issue children face while solving such questions, they relate the words such as total with addition, and left with subtraction. So without understanding the logic or reason behind the questions, children can answer it right, just by recognizing the keywords.
The writer "Sushant Pani " shared a few experiences of Maths in primary classes, in which he asked the students to make the different word problems from their real life experiences. This is a great method to teach the word problems to the children, once they start framing the question then they can easily solve it. They are comfortable in solving the questions orally. But when it comes to solving the questions in written form then they usually face a few problems.
Students also have their own tricks to solve the questions. Many times students don't know the reason why to take carry, how to know that in the given question we have to take carry, but still they are able to solve the questions.
The writer concluded a few points.
Framing word problems by relating to the hands on experiences brought a better understanding.
To frame the word problems is the important part in creating basic understanding of such questions.
One of the benefits of this is that it develops interest and curiosity towards framing the word problems. Sometimes students will frame the questions and the teacher will solve it.
Students will themselves understand that if they will understand the questions properly, the reasons behind the operations, like why to take carry, why to do addition and so on, then they automatically develop interest in solving real life problems as well as bookish ones.
