Uttarakhand Marriage Certificate: A Guide & an experience.
How we get the marriage certificate! A Winding Road to a Marriage Certificate
A Year and a Half Later
After a year and a half of marriage, we finally got our marriage certificate. While the idea seemed simple enough, the reality was far more complex.
As we have had heard from many people that, to register for marriage certificate, first of all we need to register bride's name in "Parivar register" of Uttarakhand, but as I am from different state, so, I had to get some formaties done at my state first, taking NOC and then had to submit it in "Block office" of Uttarakhand and register myself in the "Parivar register". So, all this took a lot of time. But, when we applied for marriage certificate, it did not require the copy of "Parivar register".
So, its almost a year and a half now when we finally applied for marriage certificate and got it.
The Initial Confusion
Like many others, we found ourselves in the mix of these questions: How do we apply? What documents are needed? What are the fees? The internet, while a treasure trove of information, also presented conflicting answers. Some said we needed multiple visits to the SRO office, affidavits, and even a priest's letter. The fees, too, were a mystery, ranging from 3000 to 5000 rupees.
We searched it online
Determined to streamline the process, we discovered that we could also apply for the marriage certificate online. However, the online portal wasn't as user-friendly as we had hoped. The instructions were often unclear, leading to some confusion. After navigating through various online tutorials and government websites, we finally managed to submit our application.
The In-Person Hurdles
Once the online application was submitted, we were required to visit the SRO office for further verification. Here, we encountered another set of challenges. The point person insisted on an affidavit and a priest's letter(Not required if applied after one year), even though these weren't mentioned in the online instructions. After much discussion, we managed to convince him that these were not necessary for our case as we had applied online.
However, we faced another setback. A minor oversight in the online form – filling the second section in English instead of Hindi (not mentioned in the instructions of online portal) – led to the rejection of our application. This forced us to start the process all over again, but this time with more attention to detail also the government offical at the seat also helped us and equipped us with his computer.
The Final Steps
Finally, with all the necessary documents in order, we submitted our application once more. This time, the process was smoother, involving a few simple steps like providing witness information, taking photos, and submitting digital signatures of the Bride, Groom and the other two witnesses. The entire process, including the fees, cost us 470 rupees, which is breakdown into
Lessons Learned
While our journey to obtain a marriage certificate was filled with unexpected twists and turns, it ultimately taught us the importance of patience, persistence, and a bit of online sleuthing. We hope that by sharing our experience, we can help others navigate this with greater ease, so the other people can apply smoothly.
