Chandrashila, which translates to ‘Moon Rock,’ is the peak of Chandranath Parvat, where the Tungnath temple of the Panch Kedar is located. This majestic summit offers a breathtaking vantage point, providing a stunning, celestial view of the Great Himalayas.
Chandrashila is situated at an elevation of 4000 metres and about 13,000 feet above the sea level. Many people like to trek the Chandrashila trek which is just 1.5 Kms from the Tungnath temple. The base camp (where people can stay) for this trek is Chopta.
Chandrashila is one of the most famous trek of Uttarakhand, people can visit there throughout the year, however, during the winter season, the trek route is covered with the black snow (Pala in local language).
Chandrashila trek gives us the 360 degree view of the himalayan peaks, including Chaukhamba, Kedarnath dome, Trishul and Nanda devi.
Chopta to Chandrashila trek distnce is approximately 5.5 Kms. As Chopta to Tungnath trek distance is 4 Kms and Tungnath to Chandrashila trek distance is 1.5 Kms. Its takes around 4 hours to reach the Chandrashila summit point from the Chopta (base camp).
Best time to visit Chandrashila Trek-
The ideal time for this trek is during the summer and autumn months, from April to November. Avoid planning a winter trek, as heavy snowfall makes the area inaccessible.
