While the main trek to Kedarnath Temple (from Gaurikund to Kedarnath) is an experience in itself, the surrounding region offers several short and scenic treks that can add magic to your trip.

🌿 1. Vasuki Tal Trek

  • Distance: Approx. 8 km (one way) from Kedarnath

  • Level: Moderate

  • Highlights: A stunning glacial lake nestled at 4,978 meters. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and blooming Brahma Kamal (state flower of Uttarakhand).

  • Best Time: May to mid-October

Tip: Start early in the morning and return the same day!


🕉️ 2. Bhairavnath Temple Trek

  • Distance: 1 km uphill from Kedarnath Temple

  • Level: Easy

  • Highlights: Offers panoramic views of Kedarnath Valley and is dedicated to Lord Bhairav, the fierce guardian of the Kedarnath shrine.

  • Best Time: Throughout Kedarnath’s open season

  • Distance: 3.5 km from Kedarnath

  • Highlights: A crystal-clear glacial lake near the Chorabari glacier. Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed here.

  • Best Time: May to mid-June and September

Note: The trail is prone to landslides during the monsoon—check local weather before trekking.

  • Distance: 4 km

  • Highlights: Lush green surroundings, small waterfalls, and peaceful vibe make this part ideal for beginners or those wanting a short trek experience.

Good for acclimatization before continuing to Kedarnath.


🛕 5. Triyuginarayan Temple Trek (Near Sonprayag)

  • Distance: 5 km trek from Sonprayag

  • Level: Moderate

  • Highlights: The temple where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married. Offers forest trails and a blend of mythology and peace.

Bonus: The sacred fire (Akhand Dhuni) is still burning!
