Phool Dei festival of Uttarakhand

Phool Dei is an important harvest festival in Uttarakhand, celebrated as a gesture of gratitude to the gods for a prosperous crop year. During this festival, young girls adorn the doorsteps of homes with freshly gathered flowers.

On the day of Meen Sankranti, children place flowers on the doorsteps of houses while singing traditional songs, and this celebration is known as Phuldei. In some areas, children also place rice along with the flowers. In Garhwal, this is called Phool Sangrad, while in Kumaon, it is referred to as the Phuldei festival. The children who participate by placing flowers are called Fulari.

1. Phuldei is also known by other names such as Fuldei, Chamma Dei, Daini Dwar, Phool Sankranti, and Phool Sangrad.

2. Just like the famous Sankranti festival, Makar Sankranti, which usually falls on January 14, Phuldei is celebrated on the day of Meen Sankranti.

3. The Phuldei festival occurs every year on either March 14 or March 15, depending on the calendar.
